School isn’t quite what it used to be.

Back in the old days of the 90s and early 00s, all the computers were kept in a single room and everything was learned through textbooks, chalkboards, and note pads. It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come.

But, that’s what’s truly fascinating about the age that we live in. It’s progressing so rapidly that kids only a few years apart will have wildly different school experiences. In this post, we’re going to talk about the many benefits of technology in the classroom.

Certainly, there are aspects of schooling that suffer from this technology, but overall, the benefits outweigh the negatives and as we learn to use our gadgets more productively, the kids will benefit. Let’s get started.

The Benefits of Technology in the Classroom

It remains to be seen what the long-term effect of growing up around advancing technology will be for today’s kids. Many concerns have been raised about the effects social media has on the social skills and self-esteem of our youth. As it relates to learning, however, there are many benefits.

1. Support for Teachers

It’s no secret that our teachers are overworked and underpaid. Integrating more technology into the classroom can help alleviate some of the pressure that ends up on the teachers.

Learning websites, apps, and tech-specific learning equipment could help teachers with marking, lesson planning, and other out-of-class preparation things that take up a lot of a teacher’s free time.

2. Blended Learning

Blending technology in with more traditional teaching methods can help kids move at their own pace. No two kids are able to learn at the same pace, which has always been an issue in the way that we teach them. Think about when you were taking high school math classes. Was everyone really getting it?

Taking the coursework and putting it online is something that universities have been doing for two decades now. It seems like a natural progression to move towards this in secondary education as well.

3. Personalization

Along the same lines, technology allows teachers to quickly and easily personalize lesson plans for their kids. Intuitive apps can help a student learn at a rate that they’re comfortable with instead of having to move at the pace of the classroom.

Because kids are more and more reliant on technology from an early age, there’s a certain level of comfort that comes with classroom integration.

4. Access to Information

One of the best things about the digital age is that we have instant access to every possible bit of information. For a curious student, this opens up a whole new world of possibilities in terms of learning and finding a vocation.

In the West, we expect a lot of our kids at a young age. By 18, they’re expected to have made important decisions that’ll impact the rest of their lives. The more information they have access to, the better equipped they’ll be to make these decisions.

5. It’s Not Slowing Down

The fact of the matter is that technology isn’t going to stop progressing. It’s almost always increasing exponentially, so the sooner we can integrate it into our classrooms, the better.

It’s important that our children are well-equipped to deal with real-life when they get out of school. Improving technology is what real life has become, so why not stay with the times in the classroom?

It’s easier said than done. Until we’re ready to increase the school funding, it’s going to be hard for many schools to keep up.

Projecting Forward

Where technology will stop, no one knows. It’s important to give our students the best chance to succeed in these progressing but confusing times. The conventions of discovering yourself and your career are crumbling, so giving kids the benefits of technology in the classroom will allow them to approach learning with a 2019 perspective.
